Thames Gateway Local Nature Partnership
GGKM is leading the LNP work and will be liaising with Medway Council and other potential partners on next steps and actions.
LNPs have been set up through the Environment White Paper (2011) and, following a competitive process, a number of partnershiphs have been designated across the country.
The overall purpose of the LNP is to:
- drive positive change in the local natural environment, taking a strategic view of the challenges and opportunities involved and identifying ways to manage it as a system for the benefit of nature, people and the economy;
- contribute to achieving the Government's national environmental objectives locally, including the identification of local ecological networks, alongside addressing local priorities;
- become local champions influencing local decision-making relating to the natural environment and its value to social and economical outcomes, in particular, through working with local authorities, Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) and Health and Wellbeing Boards.
The LNP designation does not bring a funding allocation to the area, but it does represent a significant opportunity for promoting and developing the ambitions for the area's environment. This may support subsequent investments.
