Projects

GGKM has a number of ongoing projects:

SINGLE CONVERSATION

GGKM is working with 11 organisations across North Kent to assess the value of environmental projects between 2011 and 2014 for the Homes and Communities Agency.

FUTURE JOBS FUND

Seventy new 'green' jobs will be created this year through the Government-funded Future Jobs Fund. Seven teams of ten people are available to carry out environmental work, from scrub clearance to building footpaths. The jobs are aimed at young, unemployed people. Click here for more details.

NORTH KENT WALKING FESTIVAL

More than 1,100 walkers took part in 90 walks over six weeks last year. GGKM continues to support the festival, which is organised by Medway Council and takes place in June.

NORTH KENT ACCESSIBLE NATURAL GREENSPACE

Natural England has asked GGKM to complete an assessment of accessible natural greenspace across North Kent, with the aim of identifying where natural space can be opened up to the public.

NORTH KENT URBAN FORESTRY PROJECT

This looks at the benefits of tree planting in urban settings. The aim is to engage people, improve degraded landscapes, contribute towards combating climate change, tackle pollution and urban heat island effect, and improve the mental and physical health of residents. NORTH KENT GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE

Working with Natural England and the four local authorities (Dartford, Gravesham, Medway and Swale), GGKM is to establish a Green Infrastructure framework for the whole of North Kent. This will set out the vision for the creation, protection and enhancement of green space to 2026.
