Green Grids
Green Grids are how local councils set out their strategic vision for their natural green assets and open spaces.
They include everything from parks to woodlands, recreation grounds and sports grounds, marshes and rivers. Green Grids look at how these green areas can be connected to benefit wildlife and the public, perhaps by green corridors or through better footpaths, cycleways and bridlepaths.
They look at how green spaces can be made more accessible to people of all ages and abilities and are an important part of the authority's planning policy. Green Grids help ensure that there is adequate provision of the right kind of green space when new development is planned, and that it is in the right place.
Green Grids may also look at other aspects of the natural environment, such as Swale's Art at the Centre project, which looks at outdoor art playing an important role in the regeneration of the area.
