Great Lines Heritage Park

This will revitalise and greatly increase public access to 75ha of outstanding greenspace in the heart of Chatham's naval heritage.

Some 30ha of the site is a designated local wildlife site. This will be enhanced with interpretation so that it can be used by schools and colleges as part of the learning experience.

SWEEPING VIEWS

The Chatham Lines and Fort Amherst (the Great Lines) will be restored and made accessible to the public, with interpretation to explain their historical significance. An additional 10-15ha of land will be opened up to the public, and there will be access through and across ramparts, offering sweeping views of Chatham.

The £2.1million investment from central government will see two new entrances to the park and a pedestrian bridge crossing to provide a direct route between Fort Amherst and the Naval War Memorial.

There will also be 4km of new and improved pathways, free public access to Fort Amhurst, lighting for the war memorial and fort, new seating and bins, vegetation and scrub clearance, new information panels and signage.
